Running Wild In Jersey
The Rugged Coast
Lost Boys Club
Beyond the boat trips, one of my latests passions is hitting the roads, trails, and coastline of this incredible island. Jersey is a runner’s paradise, and I’m excited to share my experiences, tips, and favorite routes with you. Whether you're a local or planning a visit, lace up and get ready to explore Jersey on foot.
Why Running in Jersey is Special
Jersey is the largest of the Channel Islands, but don’t let its size fool you. This island is packed with a variety of terrains that cater to all types of runners. Whether you prefer challenging hill climbs, peaceful woodland paths, or long flat stretches along the coast, Jersey has it all. One day you can be running through lush countryside, and the next, along dramatic cliffside trails with views that make you forget the burn in your legs.
My Favorite Trail Runs
One of the most used routes is the north coast cliff path. Starting at one of the many bays or harbours, this route takes you along rugged cliffs, offering sweeping views of the Atlantic. The terrain is challenging, with a mix of steep ascents and descents, but the scenery makes it worth every step. Another favorite is St. Ouen’s Bay at low tide. There’s nothing quite like running along the vast, sandy beach with the sound of waves crashing beside you. The wide-open space gives you a sense of freedom you won’t find anywhere else.
Urban Running in St. Helier
If trails aren’t your thing, Jersey’s main town, St. Helier, offers plenty of urban running opportunities. The promenade from St. Helier heading West to St. Aubin is a flat, scenic route perfect for beginners or anyone looking for a relaxed run. You’ll pass by the iconic Elizabeth Castle, and the sunset views are unbeatable. St. Helier heading East, you can pass a variety of coastlines and tidal harbours all the way to Gorey.
Running Tips for Jersey
Check the Tide Times: If you’re running along the beach, always check the tides to avoid getting cut off.
Layer Up: Jersey’s weather can change quickly. Wear lightweight layers that you can easily add or remove.
Stay Hydrated: Even on cooler days, the sea breeze can be deceptively drying. Carry water or plan your route with stops in mind.
Transport: Make use of the buses! Get out of town and run back, or get a lift from where you made it too!
Clubs: If you have been to Jersey before or have just arrived you will note how welcoming and polite the islanders are. The run clubs are a great way to get some KMs in with a great group. One to note would be The Wolf Pack a super social run club. Intervals or tempo runs on Wednesdays and a easy 5km on Thursdays, followed but coffee and pastries! Based in town for an easy meet

Upcoming Running Events
Jersey is home to several running events throughout the year. One highlight is the Jersey Marathon, held every October. It’s a fantastic way to see the island and meet other runners. The Hospice Half held in March is a great course and fundraising event to be a part of. Another favorite is the Round the Rock Ultra, a grueling 48-mile race that circumnavigates the island. If you’re up for a challenge, this one’s for you!
