OUR PLEDGE
Jersey Seafaris is proud to announce that we are CARBON NEUTRAL. Every litre of fuel used will be offset towards Durrell’s REWILD CARBON PROJECT
Jersey Seafaris investment in Rewild Carbon will do so much more than just offsetting our carbon footprint. It’s also about reviving ecosystems, recovering species, and rebuilding livelihoods. Through partnering up with Durrell it means that we are investing in one of the most precious ecosystems on the planet and the many animals and communities that flourish there.
OUR CARBON CALCULATION
At the beginning of 2022 we calculated how much carbon we used from our fuel consumption during the 2021 season. This is a simple calculation based on 2.3kg CO2e/litre of petrol. We have since offset that amount and our pledge is to continue doing this for every litre of fuel a Seafari vessel uses.
OUR PARTNERS
REWILD CARBON is Durrell's carbon offsetting programme. The programme reduces carbon in the atmosphere by rewilding threatened ecosystems which are rich in wildlife.
Durrell’s first Rewild Carbon project is in the Atlantic rainforest in Brazil. Our investment will be helping to carefully piece back together one of the most biodiverse and threatened habitats on the planet – it holds 7% of the world’s species, of which 55% are endemic, sadly only 6% of it is left, in isolated fragments. We will be helping to build vital forest corridors & creating lifelines for the wildlife including highly threatened populations of black lion tamarins, jaguars, tapirs and giant anteaters. The forest planted will be amazingly biodiverse, with 140 different species of native trees. These trees are grown, planted and nurtured by the local community, thereby providing sustainable livelihoods for the true guardians of this rich landscape.
